Just looking at the beauty of Lake George makes you feel like jumping in. Locals boast of its nickname, the “Queen of American Lakes”, and swimmers love Lake George because of its tranquil freshwater and variety of beautiful places to swim and coves to explore while taking in the scenic views of the Adirondack Mountains. 


If you’re new to Lake George and just arrived or even planning your trip, we’ve put together a list of 5 must-visit swimming spots on the lake. So put on your bathing suit, pack a picnic and cool off on a warm sunny day - wherever you dive in, you’ll emerge refreshed!  


Start your day with a visit to Glen Island Storelocated in the Narrows of Lake George. Stop in for your morning donut or bagel and coffee. Pick up sandwiches, drinks, and snacks for your day on the lake. Or take an afternoon ice cream break before getting back to your adventures!

 
Located along the east side of Lake George, Log Bay is a popular spot to anchor for a day of swimmingYou can follow an easy 1.7 mile trail to Shelving Rock Falls where you will find a 50-foot cascade to bathe in, or sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery.

 
The Calves Pen cliffs stand along Lake George in Fort Ann between Shelving Rock and Pilot Knob. 

Calves Pen and can be reached by boat OR hiking too. With 3 levels, and multiple spots to jump ranging between 5 feet up to about 50 in the back, it's the most popular cliff jumping spot in Lake George! ps. The water is 160' deep, so you can jump with confidence!

 
Sandy Bay is known for its shallow water and sandy bottom. Located on the easterly side of the Lake, in the Towns of Queensbury and Bolton, Sandy Bay is a very popular spot for boats to moor and have fun! Make sure you get their early however as there’s limited moorings!


Paradise Bay is located on the eastern shore of Lake George, just north of Shelving Rock. Known for its clear water, you can literally see the 20 feet deep sandy bottom. It's a great place to spend some time swimming and bask in the Adirondack splendor. There are numerous campsites & picnic areas that you can book and enjoy a meal by the water.

 
On the east side of Lake George is a fairly flat, deep, sunlit and very private area called Red Rocks Bay. A perfect spot to enjoy great sunset views looking southwest down the lake. It is considered a cruiser site only, with 30 sites equipped with a dock for one boat, a picnic table, fire pit, and toilet facility.
